Required Courses Before You Can Drive

📚

TLSAE Course

For Adults 18 and Older

Florida law says you must complete this 4-hour drug and alcohol course before applying for a learner's permit if you're 18 or older and never held a license anywhere. The course covers impaired driving consequences, blood alcohol limits, and medication interactions that affect driving ability.

  • ✓ Online available at your own pace
  • ✓ Completion certificate reported to FLHSMV within hours
  • ✓ Bring your permit to first lesson

DETS Course

  • ✓ Includes videos showing real crash scenarios
  • ✓ Parents can participate but aren't required
  • ✓ DETS completion goes straight to FLHSMV electronically

Behind the Wheel Training on Boca Raton Roads

Your first lesson starts in a quiet parking lot where you practice starting, stopping, and steering at low speeds. By lesson two or three, you're driving on residential streets like those in Boca West and Boca Pointe neighborhoods.

We teach on the same roads where tests happen. You'll practice on Glades Road during rush hour, navigate the Palmetto Park Road shopping areas with turning traffic, and merge onto Federal Highway. Your instructor points out specific hazards at each location — the blind corner at certain intersections, where pedestrians cross unexpectedly, which lights have short yellows.

Road Test Preparation & Third-Party Testing

📋

Test Preparation

Most students take 2-3 lessons focused solely on test preparation after they've learned basic driving. Your instructor runs through the exact checklist examiners use: checking mirrors before every lane change, stopping completely behind the white line, maintaining speed within 5 mph of the limit.

We practice three-point turns in actual neighborhoods where tests happen. You'll do the same parallel parking setup repeatedly until it becomes automatic.

Third-Party Testing

Third-party testing happens at our facility, which saves you from waiting weeks for a DMV appointment. You use the same car you trained in, on familiar roads.

The examiner follows state standards but scheduling is faster. Mock tests help you get comfortable with an evaluator watching your every move.

Refresher Lessons for Licensed Drivers

You might need refresher training if you haven't driven in several years due to living in a city with public transit, medical recovery, or anxiety after an accident. We've taught plenty of 40-year-olds who never drove after getting their license at 16.

Situations That Call for Refresher Training

Long Break

Haven't driven in 5+ years

🌍

International Move

Moving from another country

💪

Confidence Building

Recovering confidence after a crash

🛣️

Limited Experience

Never drove in heavy traffic or highways

⚙️

Manual Transmission

Want to learn stick shift

🔄

Side Adjustment

Left to right-side driving transition

International drivers adjusting to American roads benefit from refresher lessons even if they drove for decades in their home country. Left-side turns feel backwards, highway speeds seem excessive, and four-way stop etiquette is different.
