FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is ELDT and why do I need it?
Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) is a federal requirement established by the FMCSA. If you're getting a Class A CDL for the first time — or upgrading your license — and your CLP was issued on or after February 7, 2022, you must complete an FMCSA-approved ELDT theory course before taking your CDL skills test.
Is this course accepted in Florida?
Yes. This online ELDT Theory Course is fully accepted in Florida and meets all FMCSA federal requirements. Please note: online ELDT courses are not accepted in Virginia or Washington state — residents of those states must complete an in-person program.
Is PalmWay listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR)?
Yes. PalmWay's ELDT Theory Course is delivered through an FMCSA-approved Training Provider listed on the official TPR. Once you pass your final assessment, your completion record is submitted to the TPR automatically.
How long does the course take?
The course is self-paced, so it depends on your schedule. Most students complete the theory portion in approximately 40 hours. You'll have 3 months from the date of enrollment to finish.
What happens after I complete the course?
Once you pass the final knowledge assessments, your ELDT results will be submitted directly to the FMCSA TPR. After that, you'll need to complete Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) training with a licensed CDL training provider, then schedule your state CDL skills test.
Does this course include behind-the-wheel training?
No. This course covers the theory (knowledge) component only, as required by the FMCSA. BTW (range and road) training must be completed separately with an approved provider.
What do I need to take this course?
Just a computer, tablet, or smartphone and a reliable internet connection. No special software required. You'll also need a valid email address to create your account and receive your certificate.
Can I study on my phone or tablet?
Yes — the course is fully mobile-friendly. You can study at home, on a break, or anywhere with internet access.
What if I need more time to finish?
If you're unable to complete the course within the 3-month window, contact our support team. Extension options may be available.
