FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ELDT and why do I need it?

Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) is a federal requirement from the FMCSA. If you're getting a Class B CDL for the first time and your CLP was issued on or after February 7, 2022, you must complete an approved ELDT theory course before taking your CDL skills test.

What is a Class B CDL?

A Class B CDL is required to operate any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, or a vehicle towing a trailer that weighs less than 10,000 pounds. Common Class B vehicles include straight trucks, buses, and large box trucks.

Is this course accepted in Florida?

Yes. This online ELDT Theory Course is fully compliant with FMCSA federal requirements and accepted in Florida. Note: online ELDT courses are not accepted in Virginia or Washington state — residents of those states must complete an in-person program.

Is PalmWay listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR)?

Yes. PalmWay's ELDT Theory Course is delivered through an FMCSA-approved Training Provider listed on the official TPR. Once you pass your final assessment, your completion record is submitted to the TPR automatically.

How long does the course take?

The course is self-paced. Most students complete it in approximately 36 hours. You'll have 3 months from enrollment to finish.

What happens after I complete the course?

Your ELDT results are submitted automatically to the FMCSA TPR. You'll then need to complete Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) training with a licensed CDL provider, then schedule your state CDL skills test.

Does this course include behind-the-wheel training?

No. This course covers the theory (knowledge) component only. BTW training must be completed separately with an approved provider.

What do I need to take this course?

A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access and a valid email address. No special software required.

Can I study on my phone or tablet?

Yes — the course is fully mobile-friendly. Study at home, on a break, or anywhere with internet access.
