Class E Knowledge Exam
The Class E Knowledge Exam is a 50-question multiple-choice test on Florida traffic law, road signs, and safe driving practice. You need 40 correct answers to pass. Questions cover right-of-way rules, posted and default speed limits, parking restrictions, and the meaning of road markings and pavement colors. TLSAE course
TLSAE stands for Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education. Florida requires this four-hour course for every first-time driver license applicant regardless of age, and you must complete it before the Knowledge Exam. It covers how alcohol and drugs impair driving ability, Florida DUI law, and the legal and financial consequences of driving under the influence. The Drug, Alcohol and Traffic Awareness course, known as DETS, is a six-hour program required for every Florida resident under 18 applying for a first learner's permit. It must be completed before you take the permit test, and no exemptions apply based on prior coursework. Our online DETS course costs $29.95.
DETS covers Florida traffic law, safe driving practice, and the specific risks impaired driving creates for new drivers. The material combines video, written content, and knowledge checks.
Both online and classroom formats are accepted by the state. Online lets a teen work at their own pace around school and activities, while a classroom session gives direct instructor interaction. Either produces the same certificate.

Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, and a few offer limited Saturday hours. Check current hours before you go, since holiday schedules change without much notice and some locations require an appointment.
Even if you take your road test at a third-party center like ours, you still visit a state office once to collect your physical license card. Bring your passing road test documentation, proof of identity, your Social Security number, and two proofs of residential address. Expect the visit to take one to two hours.
