Getting your driver license in Greenacres, FL means passing the Class E Driving Skills Test at the Palm Beach County Tax Collector service center on S Military Trail. This page explains how the Greenacres office works — reservation only, county residents only — what the nearby roads look like, what your car must have, and which documents to bring.
Where the Road Test Takes Place in Greenacres
The Greenacres road test is given at the Palm Beach County Tax Collector – Greenacres Service Center, 4215 S Military Trail, Greenacres, FL 33463. In Palm Beach County the Constitutional Tax Collector runs driver license services on behalf of FLHSMV, so this is a Palm Beach County Tax Collector service center, not a state office. Driving tests are by reservation only, weekdays only, and for Palm Beach County residents only. You reserve yourself — not through a driving school. The examiner meets you at your car in the plaza parking lot, inspects it, and starts the test there.
Palm Beach County Tax Collector Service Center
4215 S Military Trail, Greenacres, FL 33463 · 561-355-2264. Driver license hours Mon–Fri 8:15am–4:30pm, closed weekends. Road tests by reservation only, Palm Beach County residents only.
Arrive 10 Min Early
Be there at least 10 minutes before your reserved time. Late arrivals lose their slot and must reserve again — Military Trail traffic can be slow, so leave a buffer.
Parking Lot Start
The center sits in a shopping plaza on S Military Trail. Park in a regular space and wait at your car — the examiner comes out, checks the vehicle, and begins the test from the lot.
What the Roads Look Like in Greenacres
The Greenacres road test uses the suburban streets and main corridors around Military Trail and Lake Worth Rd and lasts about 15–20 minutes. There is no published route, but the examiner usually stays within a mile or two of the office. You will not drive on Florida's Turnpike or I-95 — highway driving is not part of the standard Class E road test.
🛣️ Main Roads Near the Office
- • S Military Trail (SR 809) — six-lane commercial corridor
- • Lake Worth Rd (SR 802) — east–west arterial north of the office
- • Melaleuca Ln — quieter street lined with subdivisions
- • Jog Rd — about a mile west
- • Haverhill Rd — about a mile east
- • Lantana Rd — arterial to the south
🚦 Speed Limits to Know
🚫 No highway driving — Florida's Turnpike and I-95 are NOT part of the Class E road test at Greenacres. The area is a flat suburban grid: wide arterials, plaza driveways, canals along the main roads, and 25 mph streets behind them.
Common Mistakes at the Greenacres Road Test
Most people who fail in Greenacres can drive — they lose points on small, fixable habits at specific road features around Military Trail and Lake Worth Rd.
🛑 Rolling Stops
The number one failure point. The residential streets off Melaleuca Ln and between Military Trail and Haverhill Rd are full of stop signs, and the examiner watches for a complete stop at each one — the wheels must stop turning entirely.
🔀 Lane Choice on S Military Trail
Military Trail is a six-lane divided road with left-turn pockets and constant plaza driveways. The wrong lane before a turn onto Lake Worth Rd or back into the plaza costs points — pick your lane early.
🏫 Speed Control Near School Zones
This matters around John I. Leonard High School on 10th Ave N and the schools west of Military Trail. If your reservation falls during school hours, the flashing school-zone limits apply and any overage is marked.
🪞 Improper Mirror Checks
Skipping mirror checks before lane changes — and before pulling out of the plaza onto Military Trail — is marked down every time. The examiner watches your eyes and head movement, not just the car's position.
Vehicle Requirements for the Greenacres Road Test
Before you drive anywhere, the examiner inspects your vehicle in the plaza lot. If the car fails any item, the test does not happen and your reservation is gone.
Valid Registration
Must be current — an expired registration ends the test before it starts.
Proof of Insurance
Has to match the exact vehicle you are testing in.
Working Horn
Must sound on the first press when the examiner asks.
Functional Rear-View Mirror
Intact, secure and adjustable.
Working Directional Signals
All four turn signals have to flash properly.
Steering Wheel & Brakes
Both must be in full working order.
Tires in Safe Condition
No visibly flat or dangerously worn tires.
Brake Lights & Taillights
Both brake lights must light up — one is not enough.
Windshield Wipers
Must work on the driver's side and clear the glass properly.
Operable Headlights
Both headlights have to work.
Current License Plate Tag
Not expired — must be valid on the day of the test.
Doors Open From Both Sides
Every door must open from inside and from outside.
Stationary, Fixed Seats
Seats may not slide or shift while you drive.
Operable Windows
Must roll down so you can give hand signals if needed.
No Cracked Glass
No cracked or broken glass anywhere in the driver's field of view.
⚠️ Low-speed vehicles with a top speed of 20–25 mph are not accepted for the Class E test. If even one inspection item fails, the examiner will not start the test.
