The office occupies a suite in a retail plaza near the corner of SW 147th Ave and SW 117th St in West Kendall, so you park in an ordinary shopping-center lot shared with store customers rather than in a dedicated testing yard. You schedule your appointment yourself through the FLHSMV online appointment system — not with a driving school. The examiner meets you at your car in the parking lot, inspects the vehicle, and starts the test from there.
Phone: 305-375-5448. Hours: Monday–Friday 8:00am–5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am–1:00pm. Driving tests at this office are given by appointment only — walk-ins are not accepted for the Class E Driving Skills Test. Saturday morning slots do exist in Kendall, which helps if you work or study on weekdays, but they are the first to fill up, so check the online system regularly and take the date you can get.

What the Roads Look Like in Kendall
The Kendall road test covers local residential streets and main suburban roads in West Kendall. The test lasts about 15–20 minutes total. You will not drive on the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike (HEFT) or the Don Shula Expressway (SR 874) — highway driving is not part of the standard Class E road test. West Kendall is flat and laid out on the Miami-Dade numbered grid: a wide arterial roughly every mile, quiet subdivision streets with canals and lakes in between, and many plaza driveways where cars turn in and out without much warning. The examiner usually stays on the streets around the office — there is no published fixed route, so practice the whole area rather than memorizing one loop.

Common Mistakes at the Kendall Road Test
Most people fail not because they cannot drive — they fail because of small, fixable errors on specific road features in West Kendall: stop signs inside the subdivisions, plaza driveways, wide medians with left-turn pockets, and school zones that are active during the morning test slots. The maneuvers themselves are the standard Florida ones — three-point turn, backing up in a straight line, parking, turns, lane changes, stopping and observing right-of-way — but the local streets decide where each one is checked.
🛑 Rolling Stops
The most common failure point. The residential streets off SW 147th Ave and SW 117th St are full of stop signs, and the exit from the plaza itself onto the avenue is a stop the examiner watches closely. The wheels must stop moving completely — behind the line, not on it.
🔀 Lane Choice on SW 137th Ave and SW 120th St
These corridors have multiple lanes, raised medians and left-turn pockets at the signalized intersections. Choosing the wrong lane before a turn, or drifting across the median opening, is a point deduction — plan your lane early and signal before you move.
🏫 Speed Control Near School Zones
West Kendall has many schools within a short drive of the office, including Felix Varela Senior High School to the north and several elementary and middle schools along the residential streets. If your test runs during school hours, the flashing school-zone limits apply and speeding through one counts against you.
🪞 Improper Mirror Checks
Improper mirror checks before lane changes are marked down consistently, and on wide avenues like SW 137th Ave you will change lanes more than once. The examiner watches your eyes and head movement — not just the position of the car.
Vehicle Requirements for the Kendall Road Test
The state examiner inspects your vehicle in the plaza parking lot before the test starts. If the car fails any inspection item, the test does not happen — you lose your appointment and have to book a new one through the state system. Check every item on this list the evening before, not in the Kendall parking lot five minutes before your slot; a burned-out brake light or an expired tag is the most common reason a test never begins.

⚠️ Low-speed vehicles with a top speed of 20–25 mph are not accepted for the Class E test. The examiner will not start the test if any inspection item fails.

We bring a vehicle to the Kendall office for your already-scheduled road test appointment — road-test car packages start at $90 for the car only and $140 for the car plus a 1-hour warm-up lesson right before your slot. The road test itself is conducted by a state examiner — we do not administer or conduct the driving test.

Who Can Take the Road Test in Kendall
Required Documents by Status
🎓 Teens 15–17: DETS Course Required
Teens aged 15–17 must complete the DETS course before taking the road test. This is a mandatory requirement for anyone under 18 in Florida, whether you test in Kendall or at any other office.
📚 Adults 18+: TLSAE Course Required
Adults 18 and older must complete the TLSAE course instead. These are two different courses and the requirement depends strictly on your age.
How to Schedule Your Kendall Road Test
The steps are in a fixed order and you cannot skip ahead. You book the road test appointment yourself through the FLHSMV online appointment system, choosing the Kendall Driver License & Motor Vehicle Service Center as your location — no driving school books it for you. Once you have a confirmed date and time, tell us and we reserve the car for that slot; if you also want the 1-hour warm-up lesson, we meet you in West Kendall an hour before the appointment and drive the surrounding streets first.
Complete the Required Course

One Important Thing About Your Florida License
In Florida, if you pass your road test in an automatic transmission vehicle — as almost everyone testing in Kendall does — you are still legally allowed to drive a manual transmission car afterward. Florida does not restrict your license based on the type of vehicle you tested in.
This is different from some other states and from many countries, where a test taken in an automatic leaves a permanent restriction on the license. Whatever car you use on test day at the Kendall office, your Class E license covers both automatic and manual vehicles.

If the vehicle passes inspection, you pull out of the plaza and start the test — 15–20 minutes on the surrounding West Kendall streets.
Return & Score
You drive back into the plaza lot, park, and receive your score.
License Issuance
If you pass, results are reported to the state. You go back inside Suite 23 to complete the license issuance steps.
