Where the Road Test Takes Place in Westlake
The road test in Westlake is given at the Palm Beach County Tax Collector – Westlake Service Center, 16440 Town Center Pkwy S, Westlake, FL 33470, phone 561-355-2264. Unlike the state-run offices in Miami-Dade, driver license services here are handled by the Constitutional Tax Collector on behalf of FLHSMV. Driving tests are offered by reservation only, on weekdays only (Mon–Fri 8:15am–4:30pm), and only to Palm Beach County residents. You reserve your slot yourself through the Tax Collector's reservation system — a driving school cannot book it for you. The examiner comes out to the parking lot, inspects the car and starts the drive from there. The center sits in Westlake's new town center, a short distance east of Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd, with a free surface parking lot in front of the building.
Tax Collector Service Center
The test is conducted at a Palm Beach County Tax Collector service center, not a state FLHSMV office. Reservations are made through the Tax Collector's system, and the center serves Palm Beach County residents only.
Arrive 10 Min Early
Be in the lot at least 10 minutes before your reserved time. If you arrive late, the reservation is forfeited and you must book a new one — there are no same-day walk-in slots for driving tests.
Parking Lot Start
Park in the lot at 16440 Town Center Pkwy S and check in inside. The examiner meets you at your vehicle, runs the inspection and begins the test from the parking lot.

What the Roads Look Like in Westlake
Westlake is a brand-new master-planned city west of Royal Palm Beach, so the streets around the office are wide, freshly paved boulevards with landscaped medians, plus the rural two-lane roads of Loxahatchee and The Acreage just outside the city limits. The examiner usually stays on the streets around the service center; the whole drive takes about 15–20 minutes. You will not drive on Southern Blvd (US-98 / SR-80), the Beeline Hwy (SR 710) or Florida's Turnpike — highway driving is not part of the standard Class E road test. Because the city is still being built out, expect construction trucks turning in and out of Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd, and remember that many Acreage roads run beside drainage canals with no curb — a steady lane position matters more here than in a built-up suburb.

🚫 No highway driving — Southern Blvd (US-98 / SR-80), the Beeline Hwy (SR 710) and Florida's Turnpike are NOT part of the Class E road test. Expect local boulevards, a few stop-sign intersections and the busy arterial along Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd instead.
Common Mistakes at the Westlake Road Test
Most candidates who fail in Westlake can drive perfectly well. They lose points on small, fixable details that the new boulevards and the rural roads of Loxahatchee bring out. Practice first on the quiet Westlake side streets, then move onto Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd in the afternoon when school traffic picks up — that is the mix the examiner is likely to use.
🛑 Rolling Stops
The number-one failure point. Westlake's new residential streets and the Acreage side roads off 60th St N are full of stop signs with little traffic around, and drivers get lazy. The examiner wants the wheels completely stopped, then a look left–right–left before you move.
🔀 Lane Choice on Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd
Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd is a fast multi-lane arterial with long medians and dedicated left-turn pockets at Town Center Pkwy and Persimmon Blvd. Getting into the turn lane late, or cutting across a median opening, costs points — decide your lane early and signal well ahead.
🏫 Speed Control Near School Zones
Seminole Ridge Community High School sits right on Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd next to Westlake. If your reservation falls in the morning or afternoon school-zone window, the reduced limit is enforced, and going even a few miles over is a deduction.
🪞 Improper Mirror Checks
On the wide, empty-looking boulevards of Westlake it is tempting to change lanes without checking. The examiner watches your head and eyes, not just the car — a mirror and shoulder check before every lane change and before pulling away from the curb is mandatory.

⚠️ Low-speed vehicles with a top speed of 20–25 mph (golf carts and similar) are not accepted for the Class E test — even though they are a common sight in Westlake. The examiner will not begin the test if any inspection item fails.

Who Can Take the Road Test in Westlake
Required Documents by Status
🎓 Teens 15–17: DETS Course Required
Anyone aged 15–17 must finish the DETS course before the road test. There is no way around it for drivers under 18 in Florida, and the Westlake examiner will not test a teen whose record does not show it.
📚 Adults 18+: TLSAE Course Required
Applicants 18 and older take the TLSAE course instead. The two courses are not interchangeable — which one you need depends only on your age.

In Palm Beach County the driving test is reserved through the Palm Beach County Tax Collector's reservation system — not through the FLHSMV appointment site used in other counties, and never through a driving school. Only Palm Beach County residents can reserve at the Westlake Service Center, and slots are offered on weekdays only. Openings appear on a rolling basis, so if your first search shows nothing in Westlake, check again or look at another county service center listed below.
Complete the Required Course
DETS if you are under 18, TLSAE if you are 18 or older.
Pass the Written Knowledge Exam
The knowledge exam includes drug and alcohol questions along with road signs and rules.

One Important Thing About Your Florida License
In Florida, passing the road test in an automatic-transmission car does not stop you from legally driving a manual afterward. The state does not restrict your license according to the kind of vehicle you tested in.
Several other states do it differently. In Florida, whatever car you drive at the Westlake Service Center on test day, your Class E license covers both automatic and manual vehicles.
